Looking to travel again!

Posted by LadyLynn on Jan 28, 2012 11:19 am

Well took 2 years off from traveling as an OT. I have decided to hit the road again. My former recruire is no longer in the business. So now I need to find a recruiter I can tolerate and a company. I am looing for insight for other professionals on this. I will be ready to go in 7 weeks. Looking to be near Cleveland OH for first assignment. Hopefully I can find what I am looking for!

I can relate to finding a recruiter. I am in the process of trying to find a position also. Most of the positions I have had are in building that were in troule prior to my arrival. Most had a traveler working who decided to leave early. Most of the facillities wanted me to assume the rehab director position. Never really saw myself as a boss. Have you ever been to Cleveland OH before?

Please excuse any spelling mistakes as my dyxlexicia at times gets the best of me!!

Sounds like you are working mostly in the SNF setting.  For me, SNFs are a last resort.  Meaning that I will work almost any other setting before working in a SNF.  Acute care is my preferred setting.  I have been a manager and director of acute care, SNF, and outpatient clinic earlier in my career (before traveling).  I always felt like I was doing the most "good" when I work in acute care.  And...I really love old folks!  They say the most interesting things!

We need to start a forum thread called "Funny things that patients say".....in fact,I will do that right now!

Had a chance this year to work in a hospital (inpatient) and it was the BEST experience I had so far!

SNFs are HELL.....you see everything, burnt out staff, power hungy therapists, equipment older than you....the list goes on! Problem is the hospital settings seem to be in Texas and Washington.

I do try to be more helpful than actively recruit here but I just feel compelled to introduce myself, lol   Feel free to give me a call anytime, I’d be more than happy to help with any questions you might have.  I promise I’m tolerable, most of the time ;)

Jeremy is tolerable (so far)!
I have known him for several years & he has always been very helpful, even when not on assignment with him.
He is very straight forward & tells it like it is, which I have found rare when it comes to recruiters.

LadyLynn,

Please let me know if I can help.  There are great info here on the site (and people!).  As for recruiters, I would have to throw in Keri J. who works with me here at Aureus Medical.  She's fantastic and has been doing this for over 12 years and will help you in anyway that she can. You can reach me at ssnook@aureusmedical.com for any questions, etc. or more info.

Sincerely,
Sunny

Hi and I know what its like to be looking for a job.  Right now I am in Hilo Hawaii on my second contract with Supplemental Health.  I have been here since Sept.  They have been very good to me for sure!!  I will leave at the end of March and then I contracted with a summer camp in Pennsylvania for the summer and then perhaps back here to Hilo, which is on the BIG ISLAND of Hawaii!  Other side of the island is Kona!
Try and see if they cant hook you up with something fun.  The weather here is wonderful!!  And the job is very rewarding!

ask for Eric Simm.  He is my recruiter. The company is located in Buffalo NY.

Mention my name please:  Barbara Huntington

Thank you!  And hey good luck!  I also am looking into going to the Travel conference and seminar in Las Vegas in October.  Through Healthcare travelbook!
Should be fun, too!

You are correct...researching companies is time consuming and sometimes they all look the same.  How do you distinguish a good company from a bad one?  How do you determine if your recruiter will be good, bad, or mediocre?

My best advice is this:  choose a company based on a personal reference from another traveler.  Travelers have no reason to mislead other travelers.  Travelers have no incentive to influence your decision.  Try your best to get a personal reference from another traveler.

Hope this helps!  Are you an RN, therapist, or another healthcare provider?

Travel On!!

Jeremy Two questions. Do you have positions in Buffalo? Can one company monopolize a facility so you have to use tier recruiters? Thanks!

Would you consider any other locations in upstate New York?
