Ok, two part post. First, has anyone used Epic for charting? My current facility is transitioning to this system in March and I would like any insight on it. Does it help us out and is really better in the long run? Just curious. This is at my home base facility by the way.
Second: I just submitted my application for my Florida license. I am way excited too! I hear horror stories of places not to work, PBST testing, etc. What's the best advice to tackle this state? What makes some facilities worse to work for than others? Treatment? RN to patient ratio? Sorry, I am direct and to the point.
As always I appreciate any input and advice.
Howdy! I can only answer the Epic question as I am a P.T. I have used Epic at several travel locations (most recently Kaiser Permanente in CA). It was cumbersome to learn, but once I did, the charting was easy. The issue with any EMR is that the facility customizes it so much that is difficult to make generalized statements about any one of them. For example, Epic may be easy to use at one hospital and difficult at another based on their customizations.
Hope it helps! Remember to "Subscribe" to this topic. That way, you will get automatic updates when someone responds to your question.
Hey! I just checked the status of my Florida RN application and everything is in but my fingerprints. They should arrive by the end of this week or early next week. The only thing that is missing yet are my background and employment checks. There is quite a check list of things to do but will be nice to have my Florida license. I am reading a lot about PBST and what hospital systems to go with. I am really interested in Baptist Health as I have heard nothing but good things about them. I was able to find a good number of hospitals to chose from so I think this will be great.
Yes, I agree that Epic training is pretty extensive and not the easiest system to use. They are telling us that most of the USA has switched to Epic so it is a good thing that I am learning this now. We used Care Cast before which was easy to use. I am not too sure about Epic yet. My hospital goes live March 3rd.
Getting excited to travel as I need a change of pace. I appreciate any insight to Florida hospitals that I can get too. Thank you!
Congrats on beginning travel! We love the lifestyle. I have a travel friend in Ft. Myers right now and a good friend in Sarasota. Let me know if you find job openings in those areas. Travel On!
Yes I used Epic in California for Inpatient and outpatient. It was called Healthconnect at the facility.
As Wes said above, it may take a few days to learn the system and all the plays to click. However the facility should have a "workflow" on paper for you to follow to complete all the steps. I know the system well, and it was easy to chart and review previous notes.
One great feature is to "copy previous note" , where you can bring a previous days note forward and simply modify it for the current day. Just be sure to resign the note with the current date at the bottom.
