Are there agencies that give money up front to new travelers (like an allowance)? This is the only thing stopping me from signing up to travel. I have 5+yrs expereince in ER and great references. I just don't feel comfortable getting on a flight with that security. Any help you can give will be appreciated.
Most companies offer some sort of travel reimbursement. And sometimes you can get sign on bonuses, etc. But I have never heard of getting paid BEFORE you work. Like any job, you typically have to work your first week (or two) before you get paid. As long as you understand and review your contract before you sign it, there should be no reason to worry about not getting paid. Just do your homework to make sure it is a reputable company and a legitimate offer and you should be fine. If the problem is just coming up with the money to get to an assignment, maybe take one close to home for your first travel job to put some money back to be able to afford to fly accross the country. Hopefully this helps at all. And maybe others have heard of getting money upfront to pay for travel, but we have only experienced it as a reiumbursement.
Some companies like mine will front you money if needed. It would be a separate contract though. We can either payroll deduct when you start working or it would be paid back with your travel reimbursement. It basically a loan and most companies should be able to help you out.
I get this question from time to time, and it is pretty standard for companies to not offer any $$ in advance. At Clinical One, we pay out the "Travel To" reimbursement during the first week on your assignment, and then you are paid weekly thereafter. We also offer a full license reimbursement. But, unfortunately, we do not really offer any $$ until you the first week that you start your assignment.
Good luck with everything! :)
