Looking for advice!

Hey all!
I have been seriously considering a career change. I am a PTA, and for the past 4 years have been working for the same companies in both outpatient and short-term SNF. I am very interested in travelling, but got some disappointing news today about pay rates. I was under the impression that taking a short-term contract would offer more money AND housing. The benefits to this would be making more money, travelling the country, all while being able to afford my current apartment/bills. When I spoke with a recruiter today, I was told I would be making about $1000/week take home...I do not think that is a lot of money, as I am currently making about that and only paying for ONE apartment. Can someone please help me? Is this a normal pay rate for a PTA in a short-term contract? Does anyone keep their long-term apartment while they are in a different state?
Any input would be GREATLY appreciated, as I am trying to make a big life decision!
Thanks!
Stacy
