Traveling in Connecticut

Anyone traveled to any hospitals in Connecticut? I've recently seen jobs in Bristol, Norwalk, Greenwich, and Milford...has anyone been to any of those locations?

How has your assignment been in New Haven (Yale, I'm guessing?)? Are you an RN? How is housing there?

Hi! I have not personally traveled in Connecticut, But I am a resident of the state! CT has tons of great hospitals, SNF's, clinics and other settings to work in. There are lots of wealthy areas including Stamford, Fairfield, and Greenwich that one can only wish they could live there. Its pretty calm in CT. Im 22 years old and to me, CT is pretty darn boring. In fact, i cant wait to get out of here! However, I have been living here for 15+ years so thats why im sick of it. I dont hate CT, i just want to see new things! :)

Hey Amarie!

I've worked 2 assignments in Danbury, CT, and loved it!  Great place, great people!  It was really cool being a small drive from NYC, however, not dealing with all the crazy traffic!  Also, just a short drive out, and there was some great camping, hiking, and sightseeing.  I'd go back there in a second!  I worked Vascular Ultrasound at those assignments.

Hey Amarie,

I am an OT interested in traveling in CT. Just curious if you made it out there and what you think/thought of it! Safe travels!

I’m not 100% sure about travel RNs but for therapists you’ll mostly see positions in Hartford, Waterbury, Norwalk, Meriden, Danbury and New Haven.  It’s very rare to see travel positions in Northern CT or in Stamford.  The setting vary but they’ll mostly bee HH or SNFs.

Thank you all for your posts. I've submitted my app. for licensure and let my recruiter know I'm interested. She seemed pretty optimistic that there are a lot of hospital opportunities in CT....we'll see. I just don't get to excited about SNF's. Do you have any facilities where you have worked or know of that you feel comfortable naming?

I'm also interested in the knoxville/nashville area for a short time...ever traveled in that area?

I worked at Yale, in New Haven for 9 months. I'll say don't work in their Main OR (also called South Pavilion). They eat their young down there. I worked in the North Pavilion, Smilow Cancer Center. It was a nice place to work. The bosses there were pretty accomodating with schedules and time off; traveler or staff.

I lived in Hamden as New Haven is really ghetto once you get away from the college. Another traveler I worked with was housed in Milford. There are plenty of shops and box stores in Milford, in fact the biggest mall in the area is in Milford. If you are going in the Winter be sure to have a brush, ice scraper, and a snow shovel. You are going to need it.

Milford has a Metro North train station. It takes you into New York in an hour and is a cheap way to go. Trains are hourly into and out of the City and well worth spending the day in the City. No need to try to drive down there.
