Housing in SF Bay area

Posted by nurserhondav on Jan 21, 2012 6:49 pm

I am taking a 5 month position at UCSF in SF and am looking for a place in probably Berkeley or Oakland...it would be way easy to find a place for myself, the issue is my 20yr old daughter will be with me for the summer so I don't want to stay in a room. Anyone have a place they have stayed that might work for me?

Hey there! I'm currently living in Berkeley, working in Oakland and due to leave in a few weeks. I'm staying on the bottom floor of a home in Berkeley Hills. Check out VRBO, they have TONS of great options. I'm staying here...http://www.vrbo.com/137782. The landlord is great, the view is breathtaking, but...it may be a bit small for two.

Something to consider if you aren't familiar with the area...Berkeley is a great place to live and I feel very safe here. However, depending on where you are living, the commute to SF may not be a bit tiring. It takes me 10 minutes to get from North Berkeley to the highway to get to SF (mainly because of the gazillion stop signs and 25 mph speed limit throughout town), then at least 20 more minutes (that's being generous) to get to downtown SF depending on how crazy the traffic is...not to mention bridge tolls adding up $$$. You could always take the BART though. Just an FYI. Feel free to message me if you have any questions! I know a traveler living in SF, working in Oakland and I'm sure she'd be happy to help out too!

Anywhere on the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) is great.  We live in Walnut Creek and could easily walk to the BART line.  There are many affordable (at least in California terms!) apartments in Walnut Creek.  Let us know if we can be of more assistance to you.  And you will have to come to our next Bay Area Travelers Meet-up!  We have already had 2...maybe the third one could be in the next few weeks?
