Anyone typically try for short term assignments? Like 4-8 weeks? I am thinking that this might be more my style than 3 months at a time. Suggestions from those who've done it? Or from recruiters regarding shorter term assignments?
I have done 6, 8 and 9 week assignments, the biggest challenge was housing, but simply because I arrange my own and the choices were fewer. Two were great and I would have stayed longer, one was not so great and I was glad the person on leave came back early! Otherwise, no issues for me regarding length of assignment, I have heard other therapists say they wont take short contracts, I disagree. But then I am not one to agree to a long assignment! I have only extended one job, and that was only for a month! Get me outta there before I get involved in the drama!

I got a really great deal at a hotel for a short term assignment, it was fine, not deluxe, but just fine and very cheap!! Like $125/week, major chain, off season in a ski area. The only catch was no free breakfast or newspaper! But then they let me use the commercial washer/dryer for free! You never know until you ask.
We work with Nurse Choice for all of our short jobs. They are a branch of AMN and our recruiter, Cherie Forrester is awesome! They offer top notch pay and have anything from 1 day strikes to full 13 week assignments. They focus on rapid response positions though with high pay and 36-48+ hour work weeks. My husband has taken a couple of assignments with them, 1 strike and a 4 week assignment in Torrence, CA (we lived beach front - found our own housing). We are looking at working with her again soon too. I hope this helps at all. Feel free to message me with any other questions. And let me know if you would like me to have Cherie contact you. Or if you contact them please let her know that Bronc (Skyler) Leach referred you. :)
I did a 6 week assignment once and really wanted to stay a bit longer due to the location and staff. I was housed in a 2 star hotel which was not that great only due because I had a pet. The time flew by fast which was a plus but as far as my sightseeing, it was cut short because of the length of the assignment. I mostly do 13 week assignments and extend most of the time. My longest assignment was 10 months and I was ready to move on after that. If the area has a lot to offer I try and extend another 13 weeks or a month if needed.
I agree with Kelli... Nurse Choice is setup to do short term assignments. There is also Nova Pro, which is a sister company to CrossCountry TravCorp. They do quite a few short term assignments. The only other one that I know of is Fastaff. They have short term assignments that offer a guaranteed 48 hours per week.
