North Florida/ Gainesville area....any suggestions for places to visit?

Posted by miss bee on Nov 5, 2011 3:21 pm

Hi all,

So my first job is in and I'm going to be placed in Lake City, Fl. I'm English, so new to everywhere (!) - any suggestions on places to visit/ things to do. Have done some research, but if anyone has any specific tips that would be great.

Congrats on finding your first placement, and welcome to the USA!
I'm sure that you already have this on your list, but Disney is only about a 2 1/2 hour drive south from where you'll be staying.... so, you will definitely want to make it a priority to spend a long weekend there.
You are within close proximity to beaches on both the west and east coasts too, so I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time there this winter!

Best of luck to you!
:)

If you like hiking, then you are in a great area for it. I have had assignments in the Gainesville area and there are several state parks nearby. It is also not a far drive from Cedar Key which is a beautiful area. And near Ocala is Silver Springs which has great concerts and is a lovely park.

Crystal River just outside of Ocala,Fl has a manatee reserve and in the winter and fall months there is company that takes you out to swim with the manatees. Awsome!!!!
