My adventures as a traveling O.T.

I've had a supervisor ask me to "bank" hours so I wouldn't get paid overtime. It could work in either my favor or the client's.  I'll give you a few examples:

Say one week, I work 42 hours (on a 40/week contract). They would pay me only the 40 hours, and I would then "bank" 2 hours. In other words, they would owe me that 2 hours later on.  I could leave early some other time during the contract, but still be paid.

Say there's not a lot of work and they ask me to go home an hour earlier, I would owe them  an hour that I would have to make up later.

I didn't mind too much, as long as it didn't go over an hour or so. But, if you're always working late, you could potentially work towards a few days off that are paid in full.

Any thoughts, comments, stories??  Is this an ethical practice??

When my recruiter said "We will help you out with the license process," I thought they filled out the basic info, and you just signed the applications, wrote the checks and mailed them off.  I think what she meant was "We help pay for them, will give you the resources, and will check the status.   You have to do the dirty work."

I don't know about you, but I really dislike having to apply for licenses.  I take it back, I HATE it. It has made me think of NOT wanting to travel anymore.  It's such a hassle, takes up so much time, and is very frustrating.  I think the travel companies could really help us out more in this area.

I would LOVE LOVE LOVE it if a company filled out the forms for you and mailed them to you for any other details you needed. (Isn't there some kind of computer program?? This IS the 2010s!!) All you would have to do is sign, write the check, and mail.  I'm sure there are $$$ issues.  LIve everyone else, they are trying to save money. I would even be willing to take a pay cut (not to exceed $5/hour) if they did the "dirty work" for me.  The world would be a better place....

Do you agree/disagree???
